A video purportedly recorded on the Jadavpur University campus shows a couple allegedly engaging in a sexual act at the university’s open-air theatre. The exact date and time of the recording have not yet been independently verified. However, some students claimed that the footage could be linked to Sanskriti 2025, the university’s annual cultural festival. The authenticity, timing and circumstances surrounding the video remain subject to verification.
Four-member committee finalises investigation terms
Meanwhile, a four-member Jadavpur University inquiry committee probing alleged vandalism by ABVP supporters last week will examine whether anyone associated with the university facilitated the entry of unauthorised persons onto the campus, a varsity official said.

The committee, headed by retired judge Pranab Chatterjee, met at the university’s Salt Lake campus on Thursday and finalised its terms of reference.
The panel will investigate the “circumstances and manner” in which unauthorised persons may have entered the campus and determine whether any student, employee, security personnel or other university functionary facilitated or assisted their entry.
It will also examine the role of security personnel and other officials, including whether any “omission, commission, negligence or failure to discharge assigned responsibilities” contributed to the incidents or their escalation.
Report expected after further depositions
Chatterjee said the committee would submit its report soon. The panel will meet again on September 15, while depositions from people concerned will be recorded in the intervening period.
The committee’s meeting coincided with Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee’s visit to Bikash Bhavan, where he briefed Higher Education Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay about the events of August 19 and 20.
Campus vandalism reported
On August 19, during a student general body meeting at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, JU ABVP unit president Nikhil Das was allegedly assaulted by Left supporters at around 9 pm.
The following day, August 20, ABVP supporters allegedly entered the campus twice, around 1 am and again at approximately 2 pm, in retaliation for the alleged assault.

During the incidents, ABVP supporters were accused of vandalising parts of the campus and allegedly threatening to attack women on the premises. The attackers also allegedly damaged the outer ring of the university emblem designed by renowned painter Nandalal Bose.
