The search for the militant injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir three days ago is continuing. The Army has issued a high alert in five districts-Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Doda and Kishtwar. According to officials, the injured militant may be hiding in the forests of Majalta.
The Army had launched ‘Operation Sohan’ on 17 September. Two Pakistani militants linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed in the encounter. One militant was injured. Forensic teams are also examining bloodstains and other clues found along the route used to flee.
Majalta has dense forests and hilly terrain
Udhampur’s Majalta area is covered by dense forests and hilly terrain. Security agencies had been receiving information about suspicious activities in the Bretal-Khubban belt and the surrounding forests for the past few days. Surveillance in the area had subsequently been intensified.
Late on 16 September, after receiving information about the movement of suspicious people, the Army, CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s SOG cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. When the terrorists opened fire during the operation, the security forces retaliated.
15 September: 3 OGWs were arrested in Rajouri
Earlier, on 15 September, Rajouri Police uncovered an overground worker network linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Pir Panjal area. Zakir Hussain, Mohammad Azam and Mohammad Mushtaq were arrested in the case.
According to the police, the initial investigation found that the three were accused of providing logistical support, safe routes and other ground-level assistance to terrorists. The police said they also worked as guides for the terrorists and helped them travel towards the Kashmir Valley.
9 September: Decomposed body of a terrorist found in Doda
A decomposed body of a Pakistani terrorist linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba was found in Doda on 9 September. A joint team of the Doda SOG, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF recovered the body during a search operation. An M4 rifle with night-vision capability was also found near him.
According to the police, the terrorist was killed in an encounter in the dense forests of Seojdhar on 6 September, but his body was recovered later because of the difficult terrain.
