Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has supported Tamil actress Trisha Krishnan amid the controversy surrounding her alleged link-up with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Without naming Trisha, Kangana said women are often targeted with abuse and character attacks even when a relationship involves two people.
Says successful women face character attacks
Speaking after a DISHA meeting in Kullu, Kangana said, “Whatever her relationships are, they involve both parties. But for abuse and character assassination, the woman is always targeted.”
She questioned when the “character lynching” of women would stop and said such attacks are not limited to India. According to her, successful women, actresses, politicians and women in powerful positions often face similar targeting.
Controversy over Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remark
The controversy also relates to an alleged double-meaning remark by Udhayanidhi Stalin during a Cauvery water protest in Thanjavur on August 3.
After slogans mentioning “Trisha” were reportedly raised, he allegedly said, “Whether the water reaches anywhere else or not, it must reach there.” He later clarified that he was referring to the Cauvery water.

Udhayanidhi questioned for 8 hours
On August 4, police questioned Udhayanidhi Stalin for nearly eight hours before releasing him. After coming out, he said, “Vijay’s police treated me like a terrorist.” He also said that he had no intention of insulting any woman.
Vijay says women’s safety is a priority
Amid the controversy, Tamil Nadu CM Vijay said in the Legislative Assembly that the safety of women and children is his government’s priority. He said indecent language against women would not be tolerated.
Vijay also stressed the importance of maintaining law and order for the state’s development. He said police should be allowed to do their job without interference from political leaders or officials.
Vijay and Trisha have worked together in five films
Vijay and Trisha have appeared together in around five films, including the 2023 hit ‘Leo’. Their on-screen chemistry has often attracted attention.
The controversy gained more attention after Trisha visited Vijay’s house on her birthday, May 4, when Tamil Nadu election results were being announced. She had earlier visited Tirumala temple and offered prayers.
Reports also linked the controversy to Vijay’s personal life, including his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam’s reported divorce case, which was later withdrawn.
Trisha had reached Vijay’s house on May 4th.
Trisha also attended Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony.
