Karnataka minister K.M. Shivalinge Gowda has sparked controversy after his remarks suggesting that government officials could be given “tips” as a token of appreciation for working honestly and on time.
Speaking at an event, Gowda said there was nothing wrong with happily giving something to an official if the person carried out their work on time and honestly.

People attending the event questioned the minister’s comments, asking why government employees should receive money separately when they already receive salaries.
A video of Gowda’s remarks later surfaced on social media, triggering further criticism.
Some people described the comments as an attempt to normalise bribery and demanded action against the minister.
BJP MLC questions minister’s statement
BJP MLC C.T. Ravi also questioned Gowda’s remarks. Ravi pointed out that the government asks people to report cases of bribery, while a minister was publicly speaking about giving money to officials.
The remarks have triggered a debate over whether offering money to government employees as a “tip” could blur the line between appreciation and bribery.
