A video showing a female tourist arguing with security personnel over a temporary road closure in Ladakh’s Kargil district has gone viral.
The incident reportedly took place at the Minimarg checkpoint, where the road had been temporarily closed. In the video, the woman is seen questioning Army personnel about why tourists were being stopped and comparing the restrictions with curbs imposed in Kashmir.
She is also heard urging other tourists at the spot not to follow the restrictions.
During the argument, the woman says, “Army personnel are paid salaries from our taxes. We are Gen Z; we will not tolerate this nonsense.”
Her remarks have drawn sharp criticism from several former military officers.
Why was the road closed at Minimarg?
Minimarg is a sensitive, high-altitude area located near the Line of Control (LoC). Security forces can temporarily restrict road movement in such areas as part of routine security measures.
Road closures or movement restrictions may be imposed because of intelligence inputs, search operations, adverse weather, landslides or the movement of military convoys.
Such measures are intended to protect civilians, tourists and security personnel in the area.
Security protocols are particularly important in sensitive border regions, where ignoring instructions can potentially put lives at risk. Tourists and locals are generally advised to follow directions issued by security forces and wait until restrictions are lifted.
