Heavy rain lashed Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow on Saturday. The monsoon is likely to withdraw from the state in two days.
The monsoon withdrawal phase has begun. A yellow alert for rain has been issued in nine southern states for Sunday. The Meteorological Department said a low-pressure system has formed over the Andaman Sea.
The system is likely to intensify into a “deep depression” before reaching the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast on the morning of 23 September. It may bring heavy rain to Odisha.
A “deep depression” is a weather system that is more intense than a low-pressure system. It is usually the stage before a cyclonic storm forms.
Because of this system, winds will blow at 40 to 50 km/h in Odisha’s Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh districts.
Meanwhile, around 12 acres of land in Uttar Pradesh have been washed away by river erosion caused by flooding. Lightning strikes were also reported in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. Four people have died in these incidents.

- An orange alert has been issued for rain in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Winds are expected to blow at 40-50 km/h in these states.
- A yellow alert has been issued for rain in Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Marathwada, Konkan-Goa, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
- Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also expected in all districts of Bihar.
