In a dramatic marital dispute, a man climbed onto the roof of his in-laws’ house with a country-made pistol after they refused to let him take his wife back. He threatened to shoot himself and his in-laws, prompting police from three stations to rush to the spot.
After nearly 90 minutes of efforts, a police inspector managed to persuade him to come down by gaining his confidence and talking him into surrendering the weapon.
The incident took place in Saujna village under the Tighra police station area of Gwalior.
Wife had been staying at her parents’ home for a month
According to police, the accused, Jogendra Singh Gurjar, is a resident of Jaura in Morena district and is married to a woman from Saujna village.
His wife had been staying at her parents’ home for about a month after allegedly becoming upset with him. On Thursday evening, Jogendra went to his in-laws’ house to take her back. However, he was allegedly drunk at the time.
Seeing his condition, his brother-in-law Mridul refused to send his sister with him. An argument then broke out between the two sides.
Jogendra subsequently climbed onto the roof with a country-made pistol and began threatening to shoot himself and his in-laws.
Police say he regularly assaulted his wife
During the investigation, police found that Jogendra was addicted to alcohol and allegedly frequently assaulted his wife. She had reportedly been staying at her parents’ home because of the repeated violence.
Police said Jogendra is unemployed and his family in Morena survives on income from agricultural land. His family includes his parents, elder brother and wife.
The couple has been married for around four years. His in-laws’ family includes his parents-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

TI wins his trust and takes away loaded pistol
Bahodapur police station in-charge Alok Parihar said Jogendra had climbed onto the roof claiming that he wanted to take revenge on his in-laws for insulting him.
Initially, he did not reveal that he was carrying a pistol. After talking to him for around 10–15 minutes, the police officer managed to gain his trust.
During the conversation, Jogendra handed the pistol to the officer.
Parihar said the weapon was fully loaded and a cartridge was lodged in the chamber. When Jogendra became distracted while lighting a bidi, the officer immediately unloaded the pistol, removed the cartridge and threw it away.
To avoid alarming him and maintain his trust, the officer then handed the now-empty pistol back to Jogendra. He was subsequently brought down safely and handed over to Tighra police.
Bought illegal pistol for ₹1,500 three months ago
During questioning, Jogendra allegedly told police that he had purchased the illegal country-made pistol from a person in Morena around three months ago for ₹1,500.
Police are now searching for the person who allegedly sold him the weapon.
Police from three stations reached the spot
After receiving information about the incident, police teams from three stations reached Saujna village.
Tighra police station in-charge Shivram Kansana, Bahodapur police station in-charge Alok Parihar and Purani Chhawani police station in-charge Santosh Singh Yadav arrived at the scene with their respective teams.
Police have registered a case against Jogendra under the Arms Act and other relevant sections.
