National Award-winning actress Mansi Parekh has safely returned to Mumbai after being stranded amid severe floods near the Nepal-Tibet border during her Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. At Mumbai airport, she became emotional as she reunited with her husband and daughter.
Following a landslide in Tibet, Mansi was forced to remain stranded in a bus for four hours. She then crossed the damaged stretch on foot to reach the Nepal border before travelling to Mumbai via Kathmandu. Sharing details of the ordeal on social media, Mansi described the experience as a battle she had finally won.
Upon her return, Mansi’s husband Parthiv Gohil welcomed her by applying a tilak.
She appeared emotional while hugging her husband and daughter at Mumbai airport.
Crossed the landslide-path stretch on foot
Actress Mansi Parekh shared details of the entire ordeal in an Instagram post. Following a landslide, her bus remained stuck for four hours while the road was being cleared.
The team then travelled around 40 miles before reaching the Nepal border. However, another landslide had completely blocked the road. With no way forward, they had to leave the bus and cross the damaged stretch on foot to reach the buses waiting on the other side.
‘Returning to Mumbai felt like winning a war’
In her post, Mansi wrote that escaping China and reaching the Nepal border felt like winning a war. She described the four-hour bus journey to Kathmandu after crossing the Nepal border as the most difficult journey of her life.
Mansi added that, despite all the hardships, returning to Mumbai, meeting her family and hugging her daughter was the most relieving moment of the entire ordeal.
The place where she was welcomed is now submerged in water
In another social media post shared on 27 August, Mansi also spoke about a terrifying coincidence linked to the disaster. She shared a video of the place where she had stayed just five days before the floods struck.
According to Mansi, the area where she had been warmly welcomed five days earlier was completely submerged in floodwater. She said she was supposed to return to the same place the very next day, after the devastation occurred.
Mansi Parekh is a National Award winner
Mansi Parekh began her acting career in 2004 with the television show Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi. She later appeared in popular TV serials including India Calling, Gulaal and Sumit Sambhal Lega. Alongside acting, Mansi is also a trained singer and won Zee TV’s singing reality show Star Ya Rockstar in 2011.
Mansi is also well known for her work in Gujarati cinema, where she has worked as an actress and producer.
In Bollywood, she played an important role in the 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike. In 2024, she won the National Award for Best Actress at the 70th National Film Awards for her performance in the Gujarati film Kutch Express.
Massive devastation caused by floods on the Nepal-Tibet border
Sudden floods and landslides on 26 August caused widespread devastation in the border areas of Nepal and Tibet. Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts were among the worst affected by the disaster.
According to reports from the local administration and relief agencies, more than 900 people have lost their lives in Nepal and Tibet combined so far, while more than 4,000 people are reportedly missing from the Nepalese side alone. The floods have also washed away numerous bridges, roads and homes.
