Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked ministers at the Cabinet meeting on 24 July, 2026, to be more active on Instagram, create reels, and engage with young people.
Since then, by 24 August, the Instagram activity of 28 out of 29, or 97%, of the Cabinet ministers has increased. All ministers except JDU’s Rajiv Ranjan Singh have become more active.
Home Minister Shah has gained the most followers in the Modi Cabinet. His follower count increased by 8.53 lakh in the past month.
Focus on Reels
Following the Prime Minister’s advice, ministers have placed greater emphasis on reels. Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi stressed explaining policies and key issues through reels. The ministers have posted 1,179 times over the past month-48% more than before.
The PM himself released several videos on social media
Amid protests at Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak, PM Modi released several videos on social media. In these videos, he addressed Gen Z on the issue of the paper leak. In one video, the PM also said that he would forgive the students who had abused him during the protests.
Government to engage with Gen Z, plans one day-one university initiative
To connect with young people, the Modi government is planning to send a Union minister to one university every day. The ministers will speak with students about their concerns and understand their views on issues related to the country.
During the Modi Cabinet meeting on August 19, it was decided that under the ‘One Day, One University’ program, ministers would visit designated universities and discuss various issues with students. They will listen to students’ opinions and particularly provide information about government schemes being implemented for young people and students.
According to sources cited by news agency PTI, the aim is to connect directly with Gen Z through this initiative.
Responsibility assigned to 2 Union Ministers
After Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, Prahlad Joshi was assigned responsibility for the Education Ministry.
According to sources, Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya have been assigned the responsibility of coordinating with universities and ministers who will be visiting them.
However, the complete schedule of the ministers’ university visits has not yet been released. The meeting also discussed the reach of the ministers’ social media posts. Particular emphasis was placed on making greater efforts to reach young people with the message.
