A 30-year-old female nurse was found unconscious inside a washroom at NRS Medical College and Hospital during her night shift on Wednesday. She was later declared dead by doctors.
Reportedly, the nurse was posted in the HDU Ward and had gone to the washroom around 10:20 pm. When she did not return for quite some time, fellow nursing staff found the door of the washroom bolted from inside and broke it open. No visible injury marks or suicide note were found at the spot.
Police have initiated an investigation. An inquest and post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
How did the issue unfold?
Last night, Entally Police Station in Kolkata received information from NRS Out Post regarding the suicide of a female nurse in the HDU Ward, Room No. 33.
Accordingly, DD Homicide team & local PS rushed to NRS Medical College & Hospital and found one female nurse, namely X (30 years), W/o R, residing at, PS-Dum Dum, Kolkata-700065, lying unconscious on a bed.
What did the colleagues say over the incident ?
Upon enquiry with the other nursing staff, it was learnt that she was on night-shift duty, which commenced at 20:00 hrs on 12/08/2026. After joining her duty, she went to the washroom at about 22:20 hrs. At about 22:27 hrs, when she did not return, the other nursing staff called her, but received no response.
The door of the washroom was found bolted from the inside. Despite repeated knocking, she did not open the door. Finding no alternative, Md. Samser Alam, aged 20 years,, P.S. Tangra, Kolkata-700015, and Shreya Gaine, aged 20 years, broke open the door. They found her lying unconscious inside the washroom.
She was immediately shifted for medical treatment, where the attending doctor examined her and declared her dead.
Upon thorough checking of the scene, no visible marks of injury and no suicidal note were found.
Post-mortem examination and inquest will be conducted to ascertain the actual cause of death.
