With just three days left for the Monsoon Session to conclude, the government and the Opposition remain at odds over holding a discussion in Parliament.
On Monday, BJP president JP Nadda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said Home Minister Amit Shah was ready to respond in the House, provided Congress leader Rahul Gandhi did not walk away from the discussion.
Rijiju accused the Opposition of making allegations and then avoiding a debate, saying such conduct was not good for democracy. He also said only “cowards” make excuses to evade a discussion.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference in Delhi on Monday and raised the issue of the lathi charge during the Jantar Mantar protest.
Rahul said the Opposition had three demands: fixing accountability for the alleged firing on youths, an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the incident, and a discussion on the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Temple.
Monsoon Session enters crucial final days
The Parliament session is now in its final phase, with only three days remaining. The deadlock between the government and Opposition over the issues they want discussed continues to affect proceedings.
