Saif Ali Khan was attacked after someone broke into his home on January 16, 2025.

Mohammad Shariful Islam, the accused in the attack on Saif Ali Khan, has filed a plea to admit his guilt. He has also appealed to the court for leniency. His lawyer, Vipul Dushing, confirmed this.

According to a PTI report, the court has asked the prosecution to file its response and adjourned the hearing until 11 September.

In the early hours of 16 January, a man who had entered Saif’s home with the intention of committing robbery attacked him. Shariful Islam was arrested two days after the incident and has remained in judicial custody ever since.

Earlier this month, Additional Sessions Judge G.P. Deshmukh framed charges against Shariful Islam. This cleared the way for the trial in the case. Islam has been charged under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) with robbery using a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and housebreaking.

The relevant sections of the Foreigners Act and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules have also been invoked against him. The investigation revealed that Shariful Islam is a Bangladeshi national who had been living illegally in India with the help of forged documents.

After the attack, his son asked – Are you going to die?

Recently, while speaking about the attack in an interview with Mojo Story, Saif said, ‘I went to the children’s room. The man was holding the child (Jeh). He had inflicted a minor injury on the child and also injured our maid. Perhaps the situation might have been different if I had turned on the light first and tried to talk to him.

But at that moment, I attacked him without thinking, and a struggle broke out between us. After that, he became uncontrollable with the knife. There was blood and chaos everywhere.’

Saif further said, ‘I really wanted to be with Taimur. I asked him, “Will you come to the hospital with me?” He looked at me and asked, “Are you going to die?” I said, “No, my back is hurting a lot, but I will be fine.” He said, “Yes, I will come.”‘

Saif also said that the man had stabbed him with all his strength. A 6-inch piece of the knife remained lodged in his back. The piece had struck near his spinal cord. Saif said, ‘One of my legs was becoming numb; I was very close to being paralyzed.’

This piece of the knife was removed from Saif Ali Khan's back.

Saif wants to forgive the attacker

In the same interview, Saif said that he wants to forgive the man who attacked him. Saif said, “I also wanted to forgive that man because I think he made a very serious mistake. I don’t think he wanted to pick a fight. I would happily forgive him, but the way he tried to kill me is difficult for me to forget. This is a matter of the rich and the poor, and this happened because of this inequality.”
