Actress Tamannaah Bhatia said she did not know much about Chhath Puja. However, she became emotional while shooting for her new song, ‘Chhathi Maiya’.
At the trailer launch of ‘Vvaan’, Tamannaah said she grew up in Mumbai. She would see large crowds gathering at Juhu Beach for Chhath Puja, but did not know much about the traditions associated with the festival. While shooting for the song, she learnt that devotees observe a difficult 36-hour waterless fast.
Offering Arghya to the setting sun is a unique part of Bihari culture
Speaking to the media, Tamannaah Bhatia said that people often talk about gratitude and manifestation these days. She said this practice is a beautiful part of Bihari culture.
Usually, people offer prayers to the rising sun, but Chhath Puja gives equal respect and importance to the setting sun.
The actress said that while shooting this song sequence, tears welled up in her eyes on their own.
Learning about the 36-hour waterless fast
Sharing her experience, Tamanna said she had lived in Mumbai since childhood. She used to see large numbers of people gathering at Juhu Beach on the occasion of Chhath, but was unaware of the rules behind the ritual. During the shooting of the song, she learnt that people observe a difficult fast for 36 hours without drinking water to worship the goddess. She said that as an artist, she was only a medium, and some emotions are beyond our control.
Siddharth-Tamanna’s First Film Together
Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia are sharing the screen for the first time in the film ‘One’. Tamannaah said that the country has many folk tales, and bringing them to the big screen requires courage, clarity and vision.
She considers herself fortunate to be part of this song. She said that in the coming years, whenever she sees someone celebrating Chhath, this song will certainly play in her mind.
To Be Released in Cinemas on 25 September
Deepak Kumar Mishra, who rose to prominence with the ‘Panchayat’ series, has directed the film. Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor have produced it under the banner of Balaji Telefilms.
Besides Siddharth and Tamannaah, the film’s cast includes Maniesh Paul, Shweta Tiwari, Sunil Grover and Anup Soni in key roles. Based on fantasy and folklore, the film will be released in cinemas on 25 September.
