A diesel tanker overturned near the Mahi River bridge in the Ratlam-Jhabua region on Wednesday morning, causing a large quantity of diesel to spill onto the Delhi-Mumbai eight-lane Expressway.
After noticing the diesel flowing onto the road, nearby villagers arrived with buckets, containers and utensils and began collecting the spilled fuel.
Police remove villagers, restore traffic
As soon as the incident was reported, personnel from Rawti Police and a team from the expressway management reached the spot.
Fearing a major accident, police removed the villagers who were collecting diesel and barricaded the area as a safety precaution.
The safety team used a crane to remove the overturned tanker from the road, following which traffic movement was restored.
The tanker driver sustained minor injuries in the accident.
