In Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, a tiger attacked a woman. She was sleeping at home early Sunday morning. The tiger grabbed her in its jaws and dragged her for about 300 meters. The seriously injured woman died during treatment. A video of the blood-soaked woman struggling has also surfaced.
The deceased has been identified as Sugni Bai, a resident of Parrapur Baigatola. There were multiple injury marks on her body. The tiger had also attacked with its claws. The incident occurred in Parrapur Baigatola of Kumadehi Panchayat, under the Khapa range of Kanha National Park.

After the attack, the bleeding woman was writhing in pain.
The tiger fled, leaving the skull in the field.

Woman sleeping in hut at 1:30 am
According to relatives, the woman was sleeping in a doorless hut around 1:30 AM on Sunday. During this, a tiger that had reached the village from the forest attacked her. The tiger gripped her head in its jaws and began dragging her out of the village.
Tiger fled, leaving woman, due to villagers’ scream
Hearing the woman’s screams, relatives and villagers reached the spot. They made noise and shone torchlight. This startled the tiger, and it fled towards the forest, leaving the woman in a field near the house. Relatives and villagers took the woman to Baihar Hospital, but due to severe injuries, her life could not be saved.
The woman’s relatives showed the tiger’s paw prints.
Severe head injury, died in hospital
BMO of Baihar Hospital, Dr. Anant Lilhare, stated that the woman sustained serious head injuries in the tiger attack. She died due to extremely severe injuries. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.
Tigers and leopards seen around village before
Parrapur Baigatola village is adjacent to the forest of Kanha National Park. According to villagers, tigers and leopards had been seen several times near homes in the area in the last few months. Complaints about this were also made to the forest department. Panic spread throughout the village after the incident.
Family living in hut without door
Janpad President Sammalsingh Dhurve said that it will be investigated how the people of Parrapur village were deprived of the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana. He added that efforts would be made to provide housing and benefits of other government schemes to eligible villagers, including the victim’s family, soon.
Traces of the woman being dragged were found a short distance from the house.
Forest Department increased surveillance
After the incident, a team from the Forest Department reached the village. Officials assured to set up cages in the area and increase patrolling. They also appealed to the villagers to keep their house doors closed at night, not to leave children and the elderly alone, and to avoid going towards the forest.
Assurance of compensation to the deceased’s family
Ashish Pandey, Assistant Director of Sijora Buffer Zone, said that necessary action is being taken in the matter. Detailed information about the incident will be shared after the investigation is complete. The administration has also assured to provide financial assistance to the deceased’s family as per rules.
