
A Trinamool Congress woman leader allegedly attempted suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Howrah. Jayshree Parhal, the TMC woman ward president of Ward 12, is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital. A suicide note was also reportedly recovered from her residence.
Incident triggered political controversy in Howrah
The incident took place in the Golabari police station area and has triggered a political controversy. According to allegations, Jayshree took the extreme step following alleged continuous harassment and threats from people who had switched from the TMC to the BJP after May 4.

Family alleged repeated threats from supporters
Jayshree allegedly claimed that she and her family were repeatedly threatened in the name of minister and North Howrah MLA Umesh Rai. Her husband, Gorachand Parhal, has also made serious allegations regarding the alleged threats.
Husband alleged threats against entire family
Speaking to the media, Gorachand claimed that after May 4, people supporting the BJP had allegedly made their lives difficult in the name of taking control of the area. He alleged that Jayshree was repeatedly subjected to mental harassment and threats.
Family allegedly threatened with deadly consequences
According to Gorachand, the family was allegedly threatened with statements such as, “We will kill your husband and will not spare your sons.” He claimed that the threats created intense fear within the family.
Alleged harassment reportedly reached breaking point
The situation allegedly escalated two days ago. According to her husband, Jayshree became extremely distressed after fearing for the safety of her family and children. He claimed that she was so frightened that she could not even eat dinner that night.
Jayshree subsequently allegedly attempted suicide by hanging herself at her residence. She was later rescued and admitted to a private hospital, where she remains under treatment in the ICU.

Husband alleged police refused complaint
The incident has also raised questions over the role of the police. Gorachand alleged that after Jayshree was admitted to hospital in critical condition, he went to Golabari police station seeking justice, but the police allegedly refused to accept his complaint.
Family questioned police response to allegations
The family has questioned whether the alleged political affiliation of those accused influenced the police response. They have demanded an impartial investigation into the allegations and appropriate action if the charges are established.
Jayshree continues fighting for life hospitalised
Jayshree Parhal remains under treatment at the private hospital. The incident has raised questions over whether the police will conduct an impartial investigation into the alleged threats and harassment and take action based on its findings.
