Monsoon rains continued across large parts of the country on Friday, driven by a massive cloud band stretching nearly 7,000-10,000 km from western India across the Himalayas to China and South Korea. Areas under this cloud system are witnessing widespread rainfall.
Floods disrupt life in Gujarat, Assam
Heavy rain triggered flood-like conditions in several districts of south Gujarat. Umargam taluka recorded 43 inches of rainfall in just 16 hours, inundating low-lying areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 11 districts of the state on Friday.
In Assam, floods have affected around 6.53 lakh people, with the situation remaining critical in several districts.

Rain, lightning claim lives in Madhya Pradesh
Several parts of Madhya Pradesh have been receiving intermittent light to heavy rain over the past 24 hours. Two people were killed after being struck by lightning in Vijaypura village of Shivpuri district on Thursday.
Rivers in spate in Uttar Pradesh
Persistent rainfall over the past 10 days has caused 10 rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, to swell in Uttar Pradesh. Light rain is expected in 54 districts on Friday.
Rain alerts across several states
The IMD has issued a rain alert for the entire state of Rajasthan for the next two days. In Bihar, weather conditions have changed, with an orange alert for heavy rain issued for nine districts.

Heavy rainfall likely in Madhya Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in Chhattisgarh and East Rajasthan.
No rain warning has been issued for Marathwada, Central Maharashtra, West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

Yellow alert for rain has been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Central Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim and West Bengal.
No rain warning has been issued for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Karnataka.
Strong winds are expected over Karnataka, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
