The monsoon’s impact is now beginning to weaken across the country. According to the weather department, the monsoon is expected to begin withdrawing from western Rajasthan today. It will then gradually retreat from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. After that, the monsoon will weaken and withdraw from the rest of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra before leaving the entire country.
Rainfall activity in Uttar Pradesh is likely to cease from 22 September. However, some areas are still facing flood-like conditions. In Gonda, the falling water level of the Ghaghara river has brought some relief, but around 10,000 people in 15 villages continue to be affected by the floods. Several houses and surrounding areas remain waterlogged.
Meanwhile, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra received rain on Friday after a prolonged dry spell. Five people, including a couple, died in two lightning incidents during the rain. Four people were also injured in the incidents.
8 dead after car swept away in overflowing drain in MP
A tragic accident near the Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, Agar Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh, claimed the lives of eight people on Saturday after a car carrying devotees was swept away by the strong current of a rain-fed drain near the shrine.
The victims included three children, two women and three men. Preliminary information suggests that seven of those killed were residents of Odisha, while the eighth victim, the driver, was from Madhya Pradesh. The devotees had hired the vehicle in Ujjain and were travelling to Nalkheda to offer prayers at the renowned temple when the accident occurred.
