Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an Instagram Reel on Thursday, urging young people to celebrate National Handloom Day with the same enthusiasm as Friendship Day.
In the two-minute video, he said, “Friends, we must not forget 7 August 1905. It was on this day that the Swadeshi movement began, with people across the country joining the struggle against British rule.”
Referring to the recent Friendship Day celebrations, Modi said, “I urge you to celebrate Handloom Day on 7 August with the same enthusiasm and spirit.
Celebrating Handloom Day means supporting the livelihoods of weaver families who create fabrics by hand. There are also many new and innovative handloom products available.”

Modi urges people to buy handloom products
Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged people to purchase handloom products and promote them on social media. He suggested creating GRWM (Get Ready With Me) videos featuring handloom clothing to inspire others and support India’s weaving community.
He said buying handloom products would help empower small weaving families and contribute to building a self-reliant India. “Buy something made from handloom, make a video and share it so the world can see the strength of our weaving families. Let us celebrate 7 August as National Handloom Day,” he said.
This was Modi’s fifth social media video in the past nine days. Posted at around 11pm on Thursday, the Reel received about 13 lakh likes within 30 minutes.
