‘I am coming to meet; I got a bit late.’ These 10 words belong to mafia Atiq Ahmed’s younger son Abaan, which he said to a police inspector on the phone before reaching Jhansi jail. Just a few minutes later, Abaan died.
Abaan was going to meet his brother Ali Ahmed, who is imprisoned in Jhansi jail, on Thursday. On the highway, while trying to save an animal, the car hit the divider. In the accident, Abaan and his friend Sonu died, while three friends were injured.
When Ali received the news of his brother’s death, he broke down crying. He said, ‘Now my brother has also left me.’ He kept tossing and turning all night. Kept crying.
On normal days, Ali used to exercise in the morning. He also used to talk to some people. But, due to the shock, he remained confined inside his cell.
He kept asking the jail officials who came every hour for security checks about the accident repeatedly. Jail sources said that on Friday morning he only had a light breakfast. After that, he did not come out even to eat food.
The picture is from September 17, 2025, when Abaan had come to Naini Central Jail to meet his elder brother Ali. Then on October 1, Ali was shifted from Naini to Jhansi Jail.
Abaan used to come to Jhansi Jail almost every week to meet
Ali loved his younger brother Abaan with all his heart. Abaan also loved him. He used to meet him about three to four times every month. During the meetings, LIU and constables were also present.
Sources say that as soon as Ali and Abaan saw each other, they would embrace. They would meet like this for a few minutes. Their meetings took place under strict surveillance. For the purpose of meetings, Abaan would often stay at a hotel near the bus stand.
On every visit, Abaan would bring novels and books for his elder brother to read. After the accident on Thursday, two books were found in the car – ‘The Stationery Shop of Tehran’ and ‘The Idiot’.
When the car was searched after the accident, two new books were also found in it.
Ali told High Court Judge – Let me go to the funeral
The family of Ali, imprisoned in Jhansi jail, and Umar, imprisoned in Lucknow jail, had filed a petition for parole in the High Court to attend Abaan’s funeral. During the hearing on Friday, both were connected to the court via video conferencing. They said they wanted to attend their brother’s funeral.
Both assured the court that they will not speak to the media, will not post anything on social media, will not address any gathering, and will not participate in any other event. The court asked for strict compliance with these conditions.
The High Court ordered that Ali and Umar be taken directly from jail to Kasari-Masari cemetery. There they have been permitted to meet their younger brother Ahzam and aunt Parveen Qureshi for one hour. This meeting will be under police supervision. After this, both will be sent back to jail.
The court has also directed the state government and DGP to ensure the security and necessary arrangements for both.
Security at Jhansi jail was increased after Ali was granted parole. Lawyers reached the jail.
Jhansi jail administration wrote a letter to SSP to take Ali
Atiq’s sister Parveen Qureshi had filed a petition in the High Court for parole of Umar and Ali. Their advocate Mohammad Safdar Ali Kazmi presented this matter in court.
The bench of Justice Ajay Bhanot and DC Samant ordered parole. Now the Jhansi jail administration has written a letter to the SSP to take Ali to Prayagraj under police security by providing a police guard.
Abaan was going to meet his brother in jail, died in a road accident
- Abaan was going from Prayagraj to Jhansi jail at 5 AM on Thursday, 6 August, to meet his elder brother Ali who was imprisoned there. Abaan had 4 friends with him in the Creta car. 70 km before Jhansi, at 10:30 AM in the Poonch police station area, the speeding car crashed into the divider.The airbags deployed, but the collision was so severe that the car flew 7 feet into the air. Pieces of the car were scattered up to 40 feet on the highway. The left side of the car was completely destroyed.
- Police and passersby somehow broke the door and pulled everyone out. Abaan, who was sitting in the front seat, and his friend Sonu, who was sitting behind him, died on the spot. While the other 3 injured – Umar Ahmed, Mohammad Zaid, and Faruq Ahjam were sent to the medical college. According to an eyewitness, Abaan’s last words before dying were: Save me…
- The bodies of Abaan-Sonu were brought from Jhansi to Hatwa village in Prayagraj in the same ambulance at 4 AM on Friday. Abaan’s aunt’s house is here. After Atiq’s house was demolished, Abaan used to live there.
- Ahjam, who reached Jhansi to collect Abaan’s body, had said, “It belonged to Allah; Allah has taken it back.” In 2023, after Asad’s encounter, Atiq’s brother Ashraf had also said the same thing. After receiving news of his brother’s death, Ali, imprisoned in jail, did not sleep all night. He kept crying and did not eat food either.
