Bengaluru Authorities Raid Zepto Warehouse

The Bengaluru North City Corporation raided Zepto’s dark store (warehouse) in the city and imposed a ₹25,000 penalty for failure to maintain cleanliness at the location.

According to the corporation’s ‘X’ post, the authorities raided the dark store in ‘Ward No. 06, Thanisandra locality.’

The administrative body said that the corporation continued to take strict action against cleanliness and waste management violations in the city.

Why Dark Store hygiene matters?

Zepto operates using a network of small neighborhood warehouses (dark stores). These hubs store thousands of items—including fresh vegetables, dairy products, packaged foods, and personal care items—allowing the company to deliver orders to customers within 10 to 15 minutes.

Because these warehouses handle perishable everyday essentials, maintaining high standards of cleanliness is vital. Dirty environments can quickly lead to pest infestations, bad odors, and food contamination, putting consumer health at risk.

Rising Pressure on Quick-Commerce Apps

This raid reflects a broader push by local authorities and food safety regulators to monitor the rapid expansion of quick-commerce platforms. As companies like Zepto, Blinkit, and Swiggy Instamart open hundreds of micro-warehouses across major Indian cities, municipal bodies are stepping up surprise checks.

City officials want to ensure that fast delivery times do not come at the expense of basic sanitation and food safety rules.
