Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has clarified her controversial remarks about Gen Z youth. In a video shared on her Instagram Story, Kangana said that not all young people from across the country had participated in the protest at Jantar Mantar.
She claimed that of the nearly 10,000 people gathered there, around half were young people, while the rest were older attendees, including those in the age group of Shabana Azmi. Kangana said she never intended to call the entire generation “gutter-chhaap” and alleged that a false narrative portraying her as anti-youth was being spread.

Kangana said India’s Gen Z population is estimated at around 30 to 35 crore, while only about 10,000 people attended the Jantar Mantar protest. She pointed out that people of different age groups were present and claimed that more than half the crowd was around Shabana Azmi’s age.
Kangana challenged anyone to show a statement in which she had targeted the entire young generation. She also said that she considers herself young, adding that she is not a “50-year-old youth” like Rahul Gandhi.
Controversy erupted after calling them ‘Generation Gutter’ Earlier, Kangana had strongly criticized the protesting youth. She had said that watching the protest videos made her feel like vomiting and questioned the language of the people present there.
Kangana had called such protesters ‘Generation Gutter’. She had stated that these youths have nothing to offer to the system and are not good in studies either. After this statement, she was heavily criticised on social media and in political circles.
‘If you call yourself a cockroach, the gutter will be your home’
Following the backlash over her remarks, Kangana Ranaut explained her statement in an interaction with ANI. She said the protesters had referred to themselves as “cockroaches” and argued that a cockroach’s home is a gutter.
Kangana said that if someone chooses to call themselves a cockroach, they would consequently remain in the gutter. She added that she does not consider herself a cockroach or someone who belongs in a gutter.
Kangana also clarified that her remarks were not directed at the youth of the entire country. She said she was referring specifically to the people who were present at that particular protest.
Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj participated in the protest Regarding the background of the case, a protest took place on July 20 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. During this, 75-year-old veteran actress Shabana Azmi and actor Prakash Raj had arrived to support the protesters. Both artists were seen riding in a truck with the protesters marching towards the Parliament. It was during this protest that Kangana made controversial remarks regarding the crowd and language.
