Chief Minister’s Medal 2026: 14 IPS Officers Honoured

The West Bengal government has decided to honour six IPS officers with the Chief Minister’s Medal for their outstanding contributions in the line of duty. The awards will be presented by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during the Independence Day programme on August 15.

The six officers selected for the honour are Ajay Kumar, Neeraj Kumar Singh, Damayanti Sen, Jayaraman, Pranab Kumar and Kunal Agarwal.

Officers recognised for commendable service

Damayanti Sen, who is among the officers being honoured, was brought back into a key role after the change of government in West Bengal. She was appointed to a committee constituted to investigate cases of crimes against women.

Sen had previously led the investigation into the 2012 Park Street rape case, in which Suzette Jordan was allegedly gang-raped after leaving a nightclub. Despite her reputation as a senior and capable officer, she subsequently handled relatively few high-profile investigations during the previous government’s tenure.

Senior officers recognised for service

Another officer on the list, Jayaraman, has been associated with several investigations involving allegations of corruption and has earned a reputation for professional integrity.

Ajay Kumar had earlier investigated the Rizwanur Rahman case during the Left Front government and faced criticism from the then Opposition Trinamool Congress over his role in the probe.

Medals to honour policing contributions

The government said the officers were selected in recognition of their professional achievements and contributions to public service. The honours are scheduled to be presented during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The IPS officers selected for the Chief Minister’s Medal for Commendable Service 2026 are Kankar Prasad Barui, Sunil Kumar Yadav, Rathod Amitkumar Bharat, Surya Pratap Yadav, Pushpa, Angshuman Saha, Sachin Makkar and Dr Arvind Kumar Anand.
