Firing took place outside the residence of Giani Raghbir Singh, former Jathedar of the Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar. The incident came to light after a bullet mark was found on a car parked outside the house, while an empty bullet casing was also recovered from the spot.
CCTV footage captured the sound of gunfire, but the shooters could not be clearly identified. Police reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation.
Former Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh had pronounced religious punishment to Sukhbir Badal in the sacrilege case. Sukhbir Badal was attacked with a kirpan by a Nihang at Gurdwara Mata Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra yesterday (13 August).

Police investigating the case
Police have taken possession of the CCTV camera footage installed nearby and started an investigation. Police are investigating the case from every angle to identify those who fired. Police officials say that the matter is being taken seriously and efforts are being made to reach the culprits.
