Businessman and actor Raj Kundra recently opened up about his arrest in the 2021 pornography case and the 63 days he spent at Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail. In an interview with ABP News, he described the period as one of the most difficult phases of his life.
Raj said that while he was in jail, he came across media reports claiming that his wife, Shilpa Shetty, wanted to divorce him. He said the news affected him deeply and that he even thought about ending his life.
Divorce reports left him devastated
Raj recalled that after hearing the reports, he could not sleep that night and felt that there was no reason left for him to live.

He said his wife and family were extremely important to him and that the thought of losing them made the situation even harder.
His comments highlight how severely the reports affected him while he was already dealing with the stress of being in jail.
Shilpa’s phone call gave him strength
Raj said his perspective changed when he spoke to Shilpa on the phone the following day.
According to him, Shilpa dismissed the divorce reports as false and told him that she trusted him and was standing by him. Raj said her words gave him the confidence to face the situation and made him feel that he was not alone.
Survived on biscuits and water
Talking about his 63 days in Arthur Road Jail, Raj said the experience was extremely difficult.
He claimed that he struggled to eat the food served there and largely survived on Parle-G biscuits and water. He also said that he lost around 17–18 kg during his time in prison.
Made a film on his jail experience
Raj later brought his jail experience to the big screen through UT69, which was released on November 3, 2023. The film was inspired by his time in Arthur Road Jail and showed the challenges he faced during his imprisonment. Raj himself played the lead role in the film.
Raj and Shilpa’s marriage
Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty got married in 2009. The couple has two children, son Viaan and daughter Samisha.
Raj was previously married to Kavita Kundra, but the two later separated.
