Khandwa Collector Reprimands Youth Over Dog Costume Stunt at Hearing

During the public grievance hearing held in Khandwa on Tuesday, Collector Rishav Gupta expressed displeasure over Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Deepak alias Mullu Rathore bringing a young man dressed as a dog before officials. Calling it a publicity stunt, the Collector said the public hearing is a serious platform for listening to people’s problems and resolving them.

Collector Rishav Gupta said the public hearing is an important and serious platform. Every Tuesday, all district officials are present to hear people’s grievances and resolve them.

In such a situation, staging a stunt for publicity is not appropriate. He said that if anyone has a problem, they can also submit a normal application to bring it to the administration’s attention.

Rathore has raised questions over the increasing number of dog-bite cases in the city and the money spent by the Municipal Corporation on dog sterilisation. He alleged that despite a large amount being spent on the sterilisation drive, neither the dog population nor dog-bite cases have decreased. He has demanded an investigation into the entire matter.

Youth brought dressed as a dog to register protest

Rathore reached the public hearing on Tuesday with this demand. A young man accompanying him was dressed as a dog to register the protest. The Collector objected to this method of protest and said that if an issue is serious, it should be brought before the administration through the normal procedure.

Action will be taken if negligence is found

The Collector said that if any serious negligence is found in matters related to dog bites or dog sterilisation, action will be taken. This means the administration has not ruled out the possibility of an investigation and action, but the Collector has clearly objected to the way the protest was carried out.
