Heavy Rain Alert: Flood Situation in UP & Himachal Pradesh

Heavy rain continues to lash several parts of the country, triggering flooding, waterlogging and disruptions in multiple states.

In eastern Madhya Pradesh, rivers and streams are overflowing following continuous rainfall.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Sagar and Damoh. Schools have been closed in Dindori and Panna amid the adverse weather conditions.

Flood-like situation in 13 UP districts

Continuous rainfall has caused rivers to overflow in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, with flood-like conditions reported in 13 districts. More than 84,000 people have been affected.

The Ganga gate of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple has been closed as water levels rise. Cremation grounds at Manikarnika and Harishchandra Ghat have also been submerged.

In Prayagraj, rain has continued for three days, leaving several roads and streets waterlogged.

Heavy rain alert in Bihar

Several districts of Bihar are also experiencing heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain and lightning on August 21, 22 and 23.

An orange alert has been issued for heavy rain and strong winds in seven districts of northeastern Bihar.

Himachal Pradesh reports ₹1,033 crore damage

In Himachal Pradesh, rain, floods, landslides and other natural disasters have caused property damage estimated at around ₹1,033 crore so far this monsoon season.

A total of 205 people have died during the monsoon so far. Of these, 121 deaths were reported in road accidents, according to the available information.

Low-pressure system to keep rain activity active

According to the Meteorological Department, a well-marked low-pressure area persists over north Jharkhand, southwest Bihar and southeast Uttar Pradesh. The monsoon trough is also passing through this system.

Under its influence, rainfall activity is expected to continue in Chhattisgarh over the next few days, with several other parts of the country also likely to remain affected by the ongoing monsoon system.
