Shweta calls out online abuse against women

Sharing screenshots of some of the profiles from her official Instagram account, Shweta said that she wanted to highlight an issue that deeply concerns her and has unfortunately become common on social media: abusing women.

She wrote that women of any age or profession can become targets of offensive and abusive language online.

Shweta said what shocked her most was that the people behind such comments are not necessarily uneducated or from troubled backgrounds. According to her, many appear to be educated and come from respectable families, with wives, daughters, mothers and sisters of their own.

Despite this, she said, they feel comfortable using some of the most degrading language against another woman online.

Shweta questions Raj Thackeray over alleged supporter

Shweta shared the profile of one user who appeared to post content supporting Raj Thackeray and his party. She said this made the issue personal for her because she has spent her entire life in Maharashtra.

The actress said her father grew up in Mumbai and that she was also born and raised in the city. She added that she had always seen people take pride in their Marathi identity.

Shweta said she believed Marathi culture valued the dignity, strength and respect of women. She therefore found it disturbing when someone identifying as a Marathi person allegedly sent abusive personal messages to a woman.

Addressing Raj Thackeray directly, she asked whether such people were his supporters and whether he considered their behaviour acceptable.

She added that simply calling oneself a Marathi maanus was not enough, and that respecting women should also be an important part of that identity.

Says trolls also targeted her children

Shweta claimed that online trolls had gone so far as to make offensive comments about her children, including her eight-year-old son and her daughter Palak.

She questioned why people felt entitled to make such personal and abusive remarks against women and their families.

In another video, she showed the cockroach and tagged FDA officer Tukaram Mundhe, who has recently been in the news over food safety-related action in Maharashtra.

Shweta asked Mundhe whether he could look into the matter and said that the cockroach had entered her home through the delivery.
