Amaal Mallik has been active in the film industry for the last 11 years.

Singer Amaal Mallik has announced a break from the music industry and said he will not be taking up any new songs for the time being. Sharing an emotional note on social media, Amaal said he wants to focus on his health and recovery.

The announcement comes after his recent comments about the film and music industry. Amaal had alleged that certain influential people had tried to sideline him and create a negative atmosphere around his work.

Said – ‘I need to give my mind, body and soul some rest’

Amaal wrote on X, “I am absolutely fine, and this time I will do what is best for me. Right now, I only want to focus on things that are close to my heart and important for my health. At this point, I need to give my mind, body and soul some rest so that I can recover completely. I hope to return soon with renewed energy and many new songs in my heart for all you lovely Amalians.”

Amaal Mallik says, ‘Bid me farewell for now’

Amaal Mallik further said that he will not be taking up any new film songs until next year. He added that some of his previously recorded but unreleased songs could be released if the respective films make it to theatres.

He explained that these are low-budget films made with good intentions, but such projects often struggle to get theatrical screens. Because of this, he said it is difficult to predict when or how these films will be released. Amaal also requested fans not to repeatedly ask him about their release.

Concluding his note, Amaal wrote, “The journey from music to cinema has brought me a long way. Now I have started returning to music again. Now bid me farewell. I will be back soon. For now, I am taking leave from you all for some time.”

Amaal has often spoken about his struggles in the industry

Amaal’s decision to step away comes after several emotional posts in which he spoke about his experiences in the film and music industry.

In May, he accused some influential names in the industry of sidelining him. He claimed that he had been dropped from nearly 50 projects over the years.

Talking about his efforts to continue working in Bollywood, Amaal said, “I have been trying my best for the last 8 years with complete honesty and some respectable terms of work, but sadly, that doesn’t work in this place.”

He further alleged, “My inability to hide the truth about this place and the way it functions bothers them even more. Because of this, I and my family receive unnecessary threats. There is a group of very powerful people who do not want me to be a part of their films or any film at all. It is not just about labels anymore; the matter has gone beyond that. It is a syndicate of arrogant people.”

He also spoke about groupism and industry politics

Amaal has previously claimed that industry politics and groupism have affected the presence of his music in films.

Just two days before announcing his break, he alleged that some people in the film and music industry were trying to create a negative image of him and his work on social media.

Amaal had also criticised composer Tanishk Bagchi

Amaal was previously in the news following a public disagreement with composer Tanishk Bagchi. He wrote on social media, “For about 10 years, I kept my anger suppressed, but today, after a decade, I had to come out openly because no one here stands up for what is right, nor do they expose the wrong people in the industry. No one here has the courage to call a spade a spade, but someone had to do it. I had been silent about his wrongdoings and unethical actions for a long time.”

Amaal Mallik also made headlines over family disputes

Last year, Amaal Mallik spoke openly about his strained relationship with his family and said he held them responsible for his struggles with depression. Announcing his decision to distance himself from his family in a social media post, Amaal wrote, “I have reached a stage now where I cannot hide the pain. For years, I have been made to feel that I am inferior, while I work day and night to provide a safe life for people. I have shattered every dream of mine and realised that people treat me badly and ask what I have done.”

Amaal said his peace was taken away

Amaal further wrote, “My peace has been taken away from me. I have been emotionally drained, perhaps financially too, but I am not too concerned about that. What matters most is that I am clinically depressed because all of this is happening. Yes, I can only blame myself for my actions, but my self-respect has been hurt many times by the actions of people I held dear. They have taken away pieces of my soul.”

Returned to the spotlight with ‘Bigg Boss 19’, made allegations against uncle Anu Malik

During his recovery, Amaal Mallik participated in the reality show Bigg Boss 19. On the show, he accused his uncle Anu Malik of affecting his father Daboo Malik’s career. Amaal claimed that Anu Malik would take away work from his father by agreeing to do the same projects for a lower fee whenever Daboo got an opportunity.

Amaal also made allegations about Anu Malik’s wife. He claimed that his family was not given importance because of their financial situation. Recalling an incident, he said that while his family was getting drenched on the street, his aunt saw them but rolled up the windows of her car.

Daboo Malik later apologised over Amaal’s statements

After Amaal’s comments sparked controversy, his father Daboo Malik issued a clarification and apologised. Speaking to Telly Masala, he said, “I am not someone who would point fingers at another person and say that I did not succeed because of them. Perhaps, during the ups and downs of my life, such things may have been discussed at the dinner table or at home, which the children, Amaal and Armaan, must have heard.”

He further said, “What he heard, saw, experienced and the conversations we had when they were 12-15 years old may have stayed in his heart and are being processed today. Now that he is on Bigg Boss, I cannot tell him to stop or question what he is saying. But if anything has hurt anyone, or if any word or statement seems wrong, I apologise for it. I have no issues with anyone.”

Made an uncomfortable comment about Anu Malik’s #MeToo controversy

In an old interview with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal was asked whether he felt embarrassed by the allegations made against Anu Malik. He said, “Obviously. A lot. Since my relationship with him was not what it should have been, I don’t know that man. I don’t know whether he did it or not, but obviously, Sona, Shweta Pandit and many others have spoken up. So there must be some truth to it. Otherwise, why would people come forward and say such things?”

Amaal also said that his father, Daboo Malik, believed there was some truth to the allegations against Anu Malik. According to Amaal, his father had said, “There is no smoke without fire. Four-five people cannot come together and say something about someone without a reason.”

Daboo Malik and Anu Malik are brothers. Their families have reportedly had strained relations for several years.
