Kolkata Police have registered a case at Hastings Police Station against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and organisers of the West Bengal Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (WBTMCP) for allegedly violating a Calcutta High Court order during the organisation’s foundation day programme on Cathedral Road on Friday.
According to the police, the case was registered at Hastings PS on August 28 under Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police register case against Mamata Banerjee and organisers
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Apu Baidya of Hastings Police Station. The complaint alleges that Banerjee, along with WBTMCP organisers, entered into a criminal conspiracy and subsequently violated an order passed by the Calcutta High Court in WPA No. 21728 of 2026.
According to the complaint, the alleged violations occurred during the WBTMCP foundation day programme held on Cathedral Road from around noon onwards. Police alleged that supporters were provoked during the programme, following which the crowd pushed aside barricades and jostled with police personnel deployed for maintaining law and order.

The incident allegedly resulted in a chaotic situation and an obstruction to maintaining movement on one flank of Cathedral Road. Police further alleged that the organisers continued the programme beyond the time permitted by the Calcutta High Court.
Police to investigate High Court order
The case includes allegations relating to criminal conspiracy, disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant, assault or obstruction involving public servants and acts allegedly affecting public safety and movement.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged violation of the court’s directions and the conduct of the organisers and participants during the programme.
