An incident came to light in Chennai on Thursday in which some people breached the security of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and reached his convoy. According to the police, eight people, including a couple, stopped the convoy near the Secretariat and tried to submit a memorandum.
They are reportedly relatives of Aakash Delison, a young man who died in police custody in March. They are demanding a CB-CID investigation into Aakash’s death.
The police have taken all of them into custody for questioning. According to officials, they may be released after the Assembly proceedings conclude.

CM Vijay arrived at the Secretariat at around 10 a.m. Earlier, more than 100 people had gathered near Fort St. George.
They included the family members of Aakash Delison, a young man who died in police custody. They broke through police security and ran toward the convoy.
After those people reached the CM’s convoy, the vehicles were stopped and the police personnel who followed them caught them.
The family members alleged that no action had been taken despite cases being registered against six police personnel. The police detained eight people.
Police Personnel Injured in the Incident
According to the police, the protesters tried to cross the barricade. During this, a constable fell and sustained minor injuries. The police alleged that Rajesh Kannan broke through the barricade and ran toward the Chief Minister’s convoy.
They are also accused of punching Constable Ramkumar in the chest when he arrived to stop them. Later, Ramkumar was taken to a government hospital after complaining of chest pain. Police detained and questioned eight people, including Rajesh Kannan and his wife, Anandi. They were all demanding justice in the case of Aakash Delison’s death.
Previous Incidents of Security Breaches
After becoming Chief Minister, Vijay was provided Z+ security by the Home Ministry. Despite this, there have been earlier incidents of breaches in his security. During his visit to Karur in July, a man crossed the barricade and ran toward the convoy.
In September last year, a man was also reported to have illegally entered his residence in Chennai. In December, Vijay fell amid a crowd at the airport. These incidents raised questions about his security arrangements.
