A 5-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday. Two students died in the incident, while three others are seriously injured. The building that collapsed was 40-50 years old.
According to eyewitnesses, the students were in their rooms when the accident occurred, and excavation work was underway in the basement. Nine people have been rescued. The building reportedly had 20-25 rooms, with two students living in each room. More than 50 people were inside at the time of the accident.
Leaders have also reacted to the incident. PM Modi prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that due to the lack of adequate hostel facilities in colleges and universities, students are forced to live in paying guest accommodations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said-
The building collapse incident in Delhi’s Satya Niketan is extremely tragic. Our deepest condolences go out to all those who have lost their loved ones. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Prime Minister said that officials are present at the site and are assisting those affected by the accident.
Rahul Gandhi said-
The news of the building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan is deeply heartbreaking and concerning. According to reports, several people are trapped under the debris, including many students from Delhi University.
I appeal to the NDRF, the Delhi Fire Service, and all rescue teams to make every possible effort to reach each and every student trapped under the debris. The injured must be provided with the best possible medical care immediately, and no effort should be spared to save lives.
Congress and NSUI workers are present at the site and are ready to provide all possible assistance. During this difficult time, we stand with all the victims and their families.
Students’ lives were already filled with many struggles, and the situation has now become life-threatening. Due to the lack of adequate and good hostel facilities in colleges and universities, students are forced to live in paying guest accommodations, where as many as 40 students are often forced to live under one roof in inhumane conditions.
Every student’s life is precious, and their safety must be ensured under all circumstances.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister visited Delhi University, delivered a political speech, and even used the term “brain naxal,” while saying nothing substantial about the poor state of our education system.
Today, a hostel building has collapsed on the South Campus, and students are feared to be trapped under the debris. The number of casualties is not yet known. How long will students in this country have to pay the price for poor infrastructure and neglect?
Tribal students are dying due to a lack of care and support in tribal areas, and even students studying in the capital are not safe. Students should be provided with safe classrooms, safe hostels, and basic respect. Is that too much to ask? Will the Prime Minister visit Delhi University again and explain how all this happened?

The news of a building collapsing near Delhi University’s South Campus is extremely heartbreaking. A large number of people, including several students, are trapped under the debris. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being. May God keep everyone safe.
I appeal to the administration to speed up relief and rescue operations so that timely help can reach every victim. NSUI and Congress volunteers are providing as much assistance as possible at the site. Our thoughts are with all the victims and their families.

Several such accidents have occurred in Delhi in the past due to the government’s negligence. The government must wake up from its slumber. Comprehensive action is needed to ensure the safety of citizens.
