Malda Police Arrest Two With Pistols, Seize Brown Sugar Worth Rs 2 Crore

Two youths were arrested by police for trying to smuggle weapons to Bangladesh along the India-Bangladesh border in Malda. The arrests were made based on a tip-off in the Golapganj area.

Two youths arrested near Bangladesh border

The arrested men were identified as Subarna Mondal and Dipankar Mondal. Police recovered four improvised pistols from their possession. Both accused are residents of Milik Sultanpur, a village located close to the international border.

Six kilograms brown sugar seized

In another operation, police seized around 6 kg of brown sugar worth an estimated Rs 2 crore from South Lakshmipur under Kaliachak police station. A man identified as Anju Sheikh was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Raw materials suspected to come from Myanmar

According to the police, the brown sugar was being prepared locally in the Kaliachak area. Preliminary investigation has indicated that the raw materials used in the drug trade may be coming from Myanmar.

Drugs allegedly supplied across different states

Police suspect that the materials are being smuggled into Malda through unfenced and vulnerable stretches along the Myanmar border. The brown sugar is allegedly being prepared in Kaliachak before being supplied to different parts of India.
