That could eventually influence prices of cars, online purchases and some services. The government is now considering changes to the rules governing ITC.

Disha Salian case: ₹500 cr defamation notice to Aaditya Thackeray
Disha Salian was late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s manager.
A legal notice has added a new twist to the six-year-old Disha Salian case. Her father, Satish Salian, has sought ₹500 crore in damages from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, along with a public apology and withdrawal of their statements.
The notice gives both leaders seven days to respond. Thackeray had called the investigation politically motivated, while Deshmukh said he was being targeted and defamed. Their response could now take the dispute in a new direction. READ MORE
Ujjain dazzles with 35 lakh diyas on Modi’s birthday
Millions of diyas, prayers and public events have turned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday into a nationwide occasion. In Ujjain, 35 lakh lamps lit up the ghats of the Shipra River, Mahakal Lok, homes and shops, while Bihar added another 21 lakh lamps. The celebrations are part of the month-long Seva-Sankalp campaign launched around his birthday and 25 years in public life.

- UP PGT Notification 2026 out for 2,607 posts; applications begin Sept18. Written exams scheduled for December 15 and 16. Of the 2,607 advertised posts, 2,329 vacancies are in boys’ schools, and 278 are in girls’ schools.
- The Jharkhand High Court will hear petitions challenging the state government’s decision to cancel several recruitment exams after student protests. The cancellations have affected major recruitment processes, including the 11th–13th JPSC Combined Civil Services exams, CDPO exams and Food Safety Officer appointments.
