Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Wednesday announced that the party would soon launch another protest movement, which he termed ‘Jantar Mantar Season 2’, following its 37-day protest at the Delhi protest site.
Addressing a public gathering, Dipke said several people had been asking on Instagram when the next phase of the movement would begin.
“Many people on Instagram were asking when ‘Jantar Mantar Season 2’ would start. I want to tell them that ‘Jantar Mantar Season 2’ is going to start very soon,” he said.
Dipke alleges pressure over Delhi meeting
Dipke alleged that CJP faced difficulties in arranging a venue for a volunteers’ meeting in Delhi, with several hall owners reportedly citing “pressure from above” as the reason for refusing to rent their premises.
He said the party had initially struggled to find a venue but eventually managed to arrange a hall. However, Dipke alleged that the venue owners were threatened on the morning of the scheduled meeting.
“He was told that if he allowed CJP’s meeting to happen here, he would be hung upside down,” Dipke alleged.
CJP founder accuses BJP
Dipke accused the BJP of being behind the alleged threats, while asserting that CJP would not be deterred by such actions.
“BJP is doing all this. Their actions and statements clearly show that they are afraid of the youth of the country. If they think that we will be scared by such petty acts, then they are very wrong,” he said.
The announcement comes weeks after CJP ended its 37-day protest at Jantar Mantar on July 25. The protest was withdrawn following assurances concerning its demand for the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with other demands.
CJP spokesperson says protests are already underway
CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said Dipke’s announcement itself marked the beginning of the movement’s second phase.
“This itself is Season 2. Protests are happening across the country against such incompetent governments and officials,” Das said.
He added that CJP would now undertake a ‘Listening Tour’ across the country to hear people’s concerns. According to Das, the party will launch a campaign from Independence Day and place education-related issues at the centre of its agenda.
