The CID and STF had launched a major operation at Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee’s Kalighat residence and the house of his aide, Sumit Roy. Roy had been arrested by the CID in connection with the Salboni land-grabbing case.
The Supreme Court had cancelled the protection granted to Sumit Roy, who was described as an aide to Abhishek Banerjee. Following the Supreme Court’s order, the CID and STF once again launched a search for Roy.

According to officials, the agencies had surrounded both Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat and Sumit Roy’s house as part of the operation.
Sumit Roy was staying at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence. The agencies had reportedly deployed personnel around the premises to prevent him from leaving the area.
The operation came after the Supreme Court’s decision to withdraw the protection previously available to Roy in connection with the corruption case.
