Baruipur BJP Worker Dies After Alleged Assault, Party Leader Named

A BJP worker was allegedly beaten to death in Baruipur’s North Tangarberia, with the name of a local leader from the same party emerging in connection with the incident. The deceased has been identified as Bapi Pramanik.

Police detain several people for questioning

According to allegations by the victim’s family and local BJP workers, Bapi was attacked by alleged Trinamool Congress-backed miscreants following a conspiracy allegedly planned by BJP leader Sujan Mondal. A complaint has been lodged with the police, and several people have reportedly been detained for questioning.

Bapi remained active BJP worker

Locals said Bapi had been an active BJP worker for several years. They alleged that he had spent much of the past decade away from home due to alleged political intimidation by TMC supporters. He reportedly returned home after the BJP came to power and had recently opened a shop in the area.

Family alleges attack with sharp weapons

According to his family, Bapi was called out of his home over the phone on Sunday night. He was allegedly attacked while on his way. The attackers reportedly assaulted him with sticks and other weapons and also used sharp-edged weapons.

The family has alleged that the attack was carried out by TMC-backed miscreants at the behest of BJP leader Sujan Mondal.

Badal demands strictest punishment for attackers

A local BJP worker, Badal Mondal, alleged that tensions had escalated between rival groups in the area. He claimed that several people carrying rods, sticks, and firearms had threatened BJP workers before Bapi was attacked.

Badal further alleged that Bapi was targeted because BJP workers had opposed meetings allegedly organised by Sujan Mondal with the accused. He demanded the strictest punishment for those responsible.

Police give different account of incident

However, police have presented a different account of the incident. According to the police, a clash broke out between two groups over the formation of a local puja committee.

During the altercation, Bapi Pramanik sustained serious injuries. He died while being taken to hospital, police said. Several other people were also injured in the clash. Police said the situation is currently under control and additional personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further tension.
