Actress Bhumi Pednekar has strongly condemned the gang rape of a 16-year-old minor girl inside a moving sleeper bus in the Delhi-NCR region.
She shared a post on her Instagram account, raising questions about women’s safety in the country. Bhumi wrote that it is extremely shameful that such incidents continue to happen repeatedly.
Minor raped after being put on the wrong bus According to the Delhi Police, the Class 11 student from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, had left home for Noida. She got stranded at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida because of the rain and darkness.
During this time, the conductor of a private sleeper bus lured her and made her board. No other passengers were on the bus. As soon as the journey began, the bus driver and conductor sexually assaulted the minor and threatened to kill her when she resisted.
The incident took place on August 4, and the police reported it on August 31. Based on CCTV footage, the police seized the bus from Timarpur and arrested both accused.
Bhumi has spoken out before on women’s safety and student protests This is not the first time Bhumi Pednekar has spoken about crimes against women and the issue of safety. Earlier, she was also quite vocal during the student protest against the NEET-UG paper leak at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
At that time, when a minor student who had used abusive language against Prime Minister Modi during the protest began receiving rape and death threats on social media, Bhumi openly supported her. Bhumi had said then that no woman or girl in the country should have to face such threats for raising her voice.
She faced criticism after making a statement about the PM Earlier, during the ongoing CJP protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against the NEET paper leak, Bhoomi had questioned the use of abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She had then posted a video saying that everyone has the right to protest, but speaking such language about a person holding the country’s highest office is against our culture. Following this statement, a section of social media users began trolling her.

1. The victim left home after an argument
According to the police, the victim is a resident of Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. After a quarrel in the family, she left by bus for her cousin’s home in Noida without informing anyone. The distance from Mainpuri to Noida is more than 300 km.
2. She got off at Greater Noida
Due to heavy rain and darkness, the student mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk. She then began waiting for a vehicle to take her to Noida. Meanwhile, an empty sleeper bus passed by. The student gestured for the bus to stop.
3. The driver and conductor let her board the bus
The driver and conductor allowed the student to board the bus. They told her that the bus was going to Noida Sector 63. According to the police, some time after the bus started moving, the conductor tried to behave obscenely with the student.
4. They then gang-raped her and threatened her
The student told the police that the driver and conductor raped her. When she resisted, both of them threatened to kill her.
5. They abandoned her near Kashmere Gate and fled
It is alleged that the two dropped the student late at night on Ring Road near the Kashmiri Gate bus terminal. They then fled the spot. The student contacted the Kashmiri Gate police that same night and informed them about the incident.
6. Both accused arrested
According to the victim’s complaint, investigators formed a team under the leadership of Kotwali ACP Shankar Banerjee. The team examined CCTV footage installed along the route to identify the bus and track its route.
The police arrested the driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep, from a bus parking area in Timarpur. The sleeper bus used in the incident was also seized. A forensic examination of the bus is underway.

NHRC takes cognizance, questions also raised over police After the matter came to light, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also took cognizance and sought a report from the concerned officials. Questions have also been raised over jurisdiction between the Delhi Police and the Uttar Pradesh Police regarding the incident. The UP Police alleges that the incident began in the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate area, but the Delhi Police did not share complete information with them on time.
