The monsoon has intensified again, disrupting normal life across parts of North India and the Northeast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several areas, warning of heavy rainfall.
In Uttar Pradesh, more than 10 rivers are flowing in spate. Rising water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna have entered homes in Prayagraj. Three tracks at Rambagh railway station were submerged, forcing authorities to halt train movement on all three platforms.
In Madhya Pradesh, rising water levels in the Narmada prompted authorities to open nine gates of the Bargi Dam in Jabalpur. Heavy rain has also affected several other parts of the state.
In Bihar’s Bagaha, erosion caused by the Gandak river continues to pose a threat. Four of the five rooms of a government primary school have been submerged as the river continues to erode the surrounding area.
Himachal Pradesh has also suffered extensive damage during the monsoon. Since June 30, 197 people have died in rain-related incidents over 50 days. The state’s losses have crossed ₹1,000 crore amid continued heavy rainfall.
