One Indian along with 4 suspected Bangladeshis has been caught in Agartala.
The CISF has detained five people in two separate cases at Bengaluru and Agartala airports.
At Bengaluru airport, two capsules containing approximately 82 grams of gold were found hidden inside the mouth of a passenger who had arrived from Dubai.
At Agartala airport, four suspected Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended. An Indian national accompanying them was also detained and is suspected to be their handler.
Passenger hid gold capsules in mouth
At Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, CISF personnel stopped a passenger for questioning at around 7.30am on Wednesday after noticing suspicious behaviour in the Terminal 1 security hold area.
The passenger was reportedly not responding properly to questions from security personnel. During further checking, CISF personnel found two capsules inside his mouth, containing approximately 82 grams of gold.
The passenger had arrived in Bengaluru from Dubai on IndiGo flight 6E 1486 and was scheduled to travel onwards to Ghaziabad on IndiGo flight 6E 2518.
CISF personnel intercepted him before he could board his connecting flight to Ghaziabad. Further investigation into the gold smuggling case is underway.
CISF handed over the passengers and the capsules to the police. The purity of the gold is being verified.
Bangladeshis caught with Indian handler
On August 24, the CISF intercepted five passengers at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala. Four of them are suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals, while the fifth, an Indian citizen, was allegedly assisting them.
According to the investigation, all five were scheduled to travel from Agartala to Kolkata on IndiGo flight 6E 6097. From Kolkata, three of the passengers were due to take flight 6E 6183 to Delhi, while another was scheduled to take flight 6E 757 to Bengaluru.
The CISF handed all five passengers over to the airport police, who are now investigating the matter.
