Only one day is left for voting in the Datia by-election. BJP is making development an issue, while Congress has linked the election to Datia’s self-respect. Amidst caste and political equations, the public has its own questions.

Bhaskar spoke to youth, farmers, and different sections of the city to understand their major problems. Questions were asked to BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari and Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh on these very issues. 1. Law and Order: People allege – crimes increased, police activity decreased In conversation, many people raised the issue of law and order. They say that crimes have increased and police activity has decreased in the last two and a half years.

  • Ashutosh Tiwari, BJP: Dr. Mohan Yadav’s government is in power in the state. Our government is dedicated to the people and is working with the resolve of justice for all.
  • Ghanshyam Singh, Congress: The law and order situation is not good. If I win, I will play the role of the opposition and put pressure on the government and administration to improve it. If needed, I will raise the issue at the Bhopal and Gwalior levels as well.

2. Youth’s question- When will the stadium improve? Young men and women preparing for army and police recruitment practice running at Datia stadium. The youth complain that there are no adequate washroom and maintenance facilities here. The ground gets waterlogged during rain and on Saturdays, it is used as a temporary parking lot.

  • Ashutosh Tiwari, BJP: The Chief Minister has assured to work on business opportunities worth 11.5 thousand crore rupees in Datia. Efforts will be made to work on development-related issues, including the stadium. The stalled development of the last two and a half years will be compensated in the coming two and a half years.
  • Ghanshyam Singh, Congress: The existing stadium is quite old. Its foundation was laid when my father was an MP. Now there is a need for a new stadium for outdoor sports. I will make efforts for this.

3. Employment: Youth have to move to other cities for work In Datia, activities related to Pitambara Peeth are a source of local employment. People say that the city’s old Dalda factory has closed and due to lack of sufficient employment options, youth have to move to other cities.

  • Ashutosh Tiwari, BJP: The Chief Minister’s focus is on increasing employment opportunities in Datia. There are employment possibilities here. After the model code of conduct ends, government and party leaders will sit down and plan for this.
  • Ghanshyam Singh, Congress: We will put pressure on the government for employment and will agitate if necessary. Efforts will be made to increase employment opportunities in the region.

4. Fertilizer problem: Farmers’ complaint – tokens are being received from another market Farmers expressed concern over DAP availability and the token system. They said that many times they are getting tokens for a market different from their place of residence. Farmers also expressed concern over the price of fertiliser.

  • Ashutosh Tiwari, BJP: To my knowledge, farmers are not facing a shortage of fertiliser. Facilities provided under the rules are reaching the people. Farmers are also satisfied with the government’s work.
  • Ghanshyam Singh, Congress: During the Congress government, there was no such shortage of fertiliser. Under the BJP government, farmers are having to struggle for fertilizer. We will put pressure on the administration to ensure farmers get fertiliser on time.

5. Cleanliness, Sewer and Traffic: People listed the city’s problems People complain that the city is not being cleaned regularly. People also raised the issues of cleaning historical ponds, sewers, and drains. Along with this, there are also complaints regarding the traffic system.

  • Ashutosh Tiwari, BJP: After discussing with senior leaders, municipal president, and councillors, we will prepare a blueprint for Datia for the next 10 years. We will work on the city’s development based on that.
  • Ghanshyam Singh, Congress: The responsibility for cleanliness and urban systems lies with the municipality. Municipal elections are next year. Our effort will be to ensure better representatives are elected there.
