Made on a budget of just ₹2 crore, the film has now set a record for the highest-grossing Bollywood film on its 33rd day, surpassing films featuring Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Film is close to ₹200 crore

‘Hanuman Ansh’ earns more on Day 33

On its 33rd day in theatres, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ earned ₹11 crore net on Tuesday, compared with ₹10 crore on Monday. Usually, a film’s earnings and number of shows start falling after a month, but ‘Hanuman Ansh’ saw growth on both fronts.

The film’s collections were slow during its first 22 days, but its earnings have picked up in recent days.

India collection reaches ₹143 crore

So far, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ has earned ₹143.13 crore net and ₹169.20 crore gross in India from 81,608 shows.

The film’s overseas release is still pending, which could further increase its overall earnings.

Breaks Day-33 records of ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Pathaan’

On its 33rd day, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ surpassed the Day-33 collections of ‘Dhurandhar’, ‘Stree 2’, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Pathaan’.

With ₹11 crore net on Day 33, it now tops the list of highest Day-33 earners among Bollywood films. Its collection is more than double that of the film in second place.

If the current trend continues, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ could break more box-office records in the coming days.

The film has surpassed movies like 3 Idiots and Pathaan in terms of 33rd-day earnings. Both of those films had a different scale and star power. This performance by Hanu-Man Ansh shows the unusual pace of its late-surging earnings.

Film moves towards ₹200 crore

Hanu-Man Ansh crossed the ₹100 crore gross mark on its 30th day and the ₹150 crore gross mark just two days later on its 32nd day. Now, its gross collection in India stands at ₹169.20 crore, with ₹30.80 crore remaining to reach the ₹200 crore mark.

Social media is boosting the film

The story is about Neem Karoli Baba

The film is based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba, who has devotees across the world. Thousands of people visit his Kainchi Dham Ashram every year.

Several books and documentaries have been made about his life, but much of this material is available in English. This has meant that many people have limited knowledge about his life and teachings.

Simple presentation connects with viewers

Another reason being discussed for the film’s popularity is its simple presentation. The makers have said that the film was made mainly to share information rather than as a commercial project.

This approach appears to have connected with both devotees and general audiences.

Actors followed a saint-like lifestyle

Before starting the film, the makers reportedly sought advice from Premanand Maharaj. He advised the actors to follow a simple lifestyle, eat vegetarian food and live like saints while working on the project.

The lead actors followed these instructions during the making of the film.

The famous train story

One popular story about Neem Karoli Baba says that he once boarded a train without a ticket. After railway officials made him get off, the train reportedly refused to move. He was later called back, after which the train started moving again.

This is a devotional story, but there is no clear independent historical evidence to confirm it.

Steve Jobs also visited Kainchi Dham

Another widely discussed connection is that Steve Jobs visited India in 1974 in search of spiritual guidance. He travelled with his friend Dan Kottke and went to Kainchi Dham to meet Neem Karoli Baba.

However, Baba had died in September 1973, before Jobs arrived. Jobs stayed in India for around seven months and later described the experience as an important influence on his life.

Mark Zuckerberg also came to visit: In 2015, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg came to India and visited Kainchi Dham. He later told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that when Facebook was going through a difficult phase, Steve Jobs had advised him to visit the temple/ashram in India where he himself had once been.

Hollywood actress was inspired by Neem Karoli Baba: Hollywood actress Julia Roberts has also spoken about being influenced by Neem Karoli Baba. According to her, she saw a picture of Baba and felt a deep attraction towards him.

American psychologist Richard Alpert wrote a book: American psychologist Richard Alpert came to India and became a disciple of Neem Karoli Baba. Baba gave him the name Ram Dass. After this, Ram Dass returned to America and played a major role in popularizing Baba’s teachings and Indian spiritual ideas in the Western world. His famous book ‘Be Here Now’ introduced millions of people to meditation, yoga, and Indian spiritual concepts.
