China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) reduced its deployment along the northern border in 2025. According to India’s Ministry of Defence report for 2025-26, despite this, the Indian Army’s deployment remained strong across all sectors of the LAC, and the army is prepared to deal with any challenge.
The report also notes an improvement in the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Army, violence and protests have decreased there, with stone-pelting incidents at zero.
People in Jammu and Kashmir are also actively participating in development-related initiatives run by the government and the army.
Claim: Positive shift in talks with China
According to the report, political, diplomatic and military-level talks between India and China have brought stability to the northern border. Dialogue between the two countries picked up pace again in 2025.
The 23rd and 24th meetings of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) were held in March and July 2025. Talks between special representatives on the India-China border dispute also resumed, with two rounds held in December 2024 and August 2025.
Violence down in Jammu and Kashmir, decline in local youth recruitment too
According to the report, the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir remained under control due to the army’s sustained efforts. Levels of violence and protests declined. The army reported that only one local youth joined terrorist organisations in 2025.
According to the army, this dealt a blow to Pakistan’s claim that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is being locally generated. The report also stated that people in Jammu and Kashmir are participating enthusiastically in development schemes run by the government and the army.
6 infiltration attempts in 2025, 12 Pakistani terrorists killed
According to the army’s report, terrorists attempted infiltration via the LoC six times in 2025. During these attempts, 12 Pakistani terrorists were killed.
The report stated that infiltration attempts along the LoC were lower compared to previous years. However, terrorists have now increased attempts to use the international border in Jammu and Kashmir instead, including for smuggling narcotics and war-related material.
Situation on LoC stable after Operation Sindoor
According to the report, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and along the LoC changed significantly during Operation Sindoor. Following this, talks at the DGsMO level between India and Pakistan were held on 10 and 12 May 2025.
The report states that the situation stabilised considerably after these talks. However, uncertainty along the border still persists.
Army reviewed its shortcomings after Operation Sindoor
The report describes Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of the Indian Army’s ability to act on multiple fronts simultaneously, its intelligence strength, modern technology, and coordination among the three armed forces.
