The central government and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have extended the deadline for LPG Aadhaar e-KYC verification to August 23, 2026, offering temporary relief to millions of consumers. However, the extension has done little to ease panic on the ground. Widespread server outages, crashing mobile applications, and slow digital processing have brought the verification process to a grinding halt, forcing citizens to stand in serpentine queues outside gas agencies across the country.
Previously set for August 16, the deadline was pushed forward by a week due to persistent technical glitches. Despite the extension, the digital infrastructure of OMCs has failed to handle the massive traffic load, leaving both consumers and distributors frustrated.
Digital Infrastructure Collapses Under Heavy Load
The core of the crisis lies in the structural limitations of the OMCs’ centralized servers. Over the last few days, consumers attempting to complete their verification online have faced constant app crashes and unresponsive portals.
With the digital route effectively blocked, the burden has shifted entirely to physical distributorships. Gas agencies are witnessing unprecedented crowds, with consumers waiting for hours under biometric counters with no guarantee of success.
“A seven-day extension is just a band-aid solution if the servers aren’t fixed,” said a local LPG distributor. “Once the central server goes down, our entire day’s schedule is ruined. Deploying extra staff or having correct physical documents does not help when the biometric machines cannot connect to the network. The backlog is simply piling up.”
What Happens If You Miss the August 23 Deadline?
Missing the deadline will have direct financial implications for consumers. While LPG connections will not be cancelled, non-compliant users will temporarily lose their entitlement to subsidized domestic cylinders. Until their e-KYC is successfully completed, they will be forced to purchase LPG cylinders at commercial rates, which are significantly higher than domestic subsidized rates.
Guide: How to Complete Your LPG e-KYC (Online & Offline)
To help consumers navigate the ongoing technical hurdles, here is a step-by-step breakdown of how to complete the verification process.
Option 1: Online via Mobile App
Consumers can complete the process from home using the official mobile applications of their respective service providers (Indane, HP Pay, or Hello BPCL), available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Download and log into the official app of your LPG provider.
Select the e-KYC option and follow the prompts for face authentication.
Troubleshooting Face Scan: If the face authentication fails, do not panic. Ensure your face is well-lit, keep the mobile camera steady, and retry.
Crucial Step: Simply scanning your face does not mean the process is complete. Ensure the app displays an “e-KYC Success” status. If the status is not updated, you must verify it with your distributor.
Option 2: Offline Methods
If the mobile application fails to work, consumers have two offline alternatives:
At the Gas Agency: Visit your nearest LPG distributor office to get your biometric authentication done via fingerprint or iris scanners.
Via Delivery Personnel: You can request the LPG delivery executive to perform the biometric verification using their official company-provided mobile devices when they deliver your cylinder to your doorstep.
