Madhya Pradesh’s voter count has increased by 27.40 lakh after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India, according to the latest electoral roll prepared by the State Election Commission.
The increase has been reflected in the voter-list report prepared by the State Election Commission ahead of the urban local body and panchayat elections scheduled to be held in Madhya Pradesh next year.
The latest voter list has also highlighted a significant gap between the number of rural and urban voters in the state.
Since the State Election Commission will conduct the 2027 urban local body and panchayat elections based on the electoral roll as of December 31, 2026, further changes to the voter list are expected.
MP now has 5.67 crore voters
Following the publication of voter lists by district election officers across all districts on July 27, the State Election Commission has released an updated report on urban and rural voters.
According to the latest list, Madhya Pradesh has a total of 5,67,21,353 registered voters.
Of these, 4,06,70,369 voters live in rural areas, while 1,60,50,984 voters are registered in urban areas.
This means rural voters account for a significantly larger share of the state’s electorate than urban voters.
Voter count was 5.39 crore after SIR
The Election Commission conducted the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Madhya Pradesh between November 2025 and February 2026.
The electoral roll published after the SIR process recorded 5,39,81,065 voters in the state.
This included 2,79,04,975 male voters, 2,60,75,186 female voters and 904 third-gender voters.
Compared with the post-SIR figure, the State Election Commission’s latest list shows an increase of 27,40,288 voters.
Voter list may change before 2027 elections
The State Election Commission’s voter list is currently drawing attention as Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to hold urban local body and panchayat elections in 2027.
The final electoral roll for these elections will be based on the voter-list status as of December 31, 2026.
Therefore, the current figures are not final, and the number of registered voters is expected to change as additions, deletions and corrections continue before the final roll is prepared.
