Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange has ended his 20-day hunger strike, giving the Maharashtra government three months to consider his demands and take action.
Jarange had been demanding reservation for the Maratha community, along with the issuance of Kunbi certificates to eligible Marathas. He began his hunger strike on August 29 at Antarwali Sarati in Jalna district.
After starting the protest, Jarange announced that he would hold a demonstration in Mumbai if his demands were not addressed. He began marching towards Mumbai on September 15. However, Mumbai Police had denied permission for the proposed protest at Azad Maidan.

Police sought details of protesters
Police said Jarange had initially indicated that he would protest alone or with around 50 supporters.
However, a large number of people joined his march towards Mumbai. Mumbai Police subsequently sought information from Jarange about the number of protesters, volunteers and vehicles involved in the demonstration.
Jarange’s health deteriorated during march
Jarange’s health deteriorated on September 16 in Patoda, Beed district, while he was travelling towards Mumbai.
Doctors advised him to undergo treatment after he developed dehydration, low blood pressure and low blood sugar. He received treatment in Patoda, while uncertainty remained over whether he would continue the march to Mumbai.
