Mithun Chakraborty Kolkata Film Festival Controversy

Mithun Chakraborty has expressed his displeasure over not being invited to the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). He spoke to the media about the matter after a related meeting in Kolkata on Thursday, 13 August.

Referring to his long association with Bengali and Indian cinema, the actor questioned why he was not invited to the festival. He also said that he is travelling to Moscow, where he has been invited to attend a film festival.

‘An invitation came from Moscow, but not even an invite in Bengal’

According to ANI, Mithun said, “I was not invited to the film festival. I am now going to Moscow; maybe they will invite me there. They are inviting me to the Moscow Film Festival, but here in Bengal, I was not invited. Perhaps they don’t invite me because they consider me a small artist. They invite prominent people from outside who have absolutely no connection with Bengal.”

Several people associated with the Bengali film industry were present at the meeting. They included Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Arindam Sil, Shantilal Mukherjee, Kanchan Mallick, Srijit Mukherji, and Shankar Chakraborty.

The Kolkata Film Festival will be held from September 3 to 6. Mithun Chakraborty also met Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday.

Admitted to hospital a few days ago, underwent surgery

Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty recently underwent surgery. Following the procedure, West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari also visited him at a private hospital in Kolkata.

According to sources cited by news agency PTI, the metal plate that had previously been implanted in Mithun Chakraborty’s body was removed. The plate had been inserted following an old accident.

The Chief Minister wrote on social media,

Famous film actor and member of BJP’s central committee, Mithun Chakraborty, is admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to health issues. Today I went to the hospital to meet him. I spoke with him and inquired about his health. I pray to God for his speedy recovery.

Was also admitted to the hospital in 2024

Earlier in February 2024, Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Kolkata after complaining of a brain stroke and chest pain. At that time too, Suvendu Adhikari had visited Mithun Chakraborty at the hospital and inquired about his health.

Mithun Chakraborty is among the prominent BJP leaders in West Bengal. He campaigned for the party in the 2026 assembly elections, in which the BJP defeated the Trinamool Congress to form the government in the state.

Mithun Chakraborty has so far been honored with three National Film Awards, 2 Filmfare Awards, and the Padma Bhushan in 2024.
