Film producer Pranay Reddy Vanga, brother of filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has challenged critics over their reviews of Romanchakam. He said critics should review their upcoming film Spirit from the same perspective.

Said ‘Spirit’ will get the same treatment

Speaking to YouTube channel Tag Telugu, Pranay said, “The film will release; then we’ll see how they review it.” Spirit stars Prabhas and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles and is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Spirit is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga and Prabhakar Reddy Vanga. Pranay made the remarks while discussing the response to Romanchakam.

‘Romanchakam’ received mixed response

Romanchakam was released in theatres on September 3 and received mixed-to-average responses from audiences and critics.

Pranaya, along with his brother Sandeep, had established their own production banner, 'Bhadrakali Pictures'.

Pranaya said reviewing films may seem like an easy task. This is because many films released in cinemas do not succeed.

He said the difficulties involved in making a film can only be understood when one becomes part of the production process.

“When you enter production, you understand how hard a director works to bring what has been written to the screen. You also understand the kind of difficulties that arise during production.”

Pranay also said that reviews do not necessarily determine a film’s box-office performance. According to him, some films perform well despite receiving poor reviews.

At the same time, some films receive very positive reviews but fail to connect with audiences. Pranay believes that, ultimately, it is the audience that delivers the final verdict.

'Romanchakam', produced by Pranay Reddy Vanga, was released on 3 September. Made on a budget of around ₹10 crore, the film has earned ₹9.77 crore so far.

Direct jibe at reviews of ‘Romanchakam’

Pranay also took a direct jibe at the critics of Romanchakam. He said the film faced greater scrutiny because it was a small production. Comparing the criticism to “plucking feathers from a hen’s egg”, he challenged critics to adopt the same approach towards Spirit. He said, “This is a small film, which is why it is being treated as though feathers are being plucked from a hen’s egg. If they can really do that, ‘Spirit’ is coming. Let’s see. Let’s see what happens with ‘Spirit’.” When the host asked if he was challenging the critics, Pranay agreed and also expressed confidence in Spirit.

Earlier, Pranay Reddy Vanga had spoken about Deepika Padukone’s exit from Spirit. In an interview with NTV, he claimed that Deepika had demanded a high fee along with a 10% profit share, which the makers did not agree to. He said they then began considering other actors. According to Pranay, details about the film’s story and characters were leaked during this period, which upset director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Pranay had also questioned Deepika without naming her. He had asked, “What kind of feminism is it to leak the story of the makers’ hard work?” After Deepika exited the film, Triptii Dimri was cast opposite Prabhas Prabhas plays a police officer in ‘Spirit’

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, ‘Spirit’ is an upcoming cop-action drama. Prabhas plays the lead role in the film.

The makers released Prabhas’ first look from the film on New Year’s Day in 2026. The poster showed him in a serious look with an injured back.

The poster showed female lead Triptii Dimri lighting a cigarette for Prabhas’ character. Vivek Oberoi is also part of the film. Aishwarya Desai is making her debut with the film.

‘Spirit’ is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 5 March 2027.
