Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi attended a condolence event on Thursday for the late Manipuri musician Chontham Vikram Singh. Calling Vikram’s killing tragic, Gandhi said he was targeted simply because of where he came from.
Rahul Gandhi said the killing of a young person is a major tragedy in itself. He added that attacking someone because of their identity and where they come from is also a serious concern.
He further said that this is not just Vikram’s tragedy. The people of Manipur have been facing various problems and violence for a long time.
Police have arrested seven people, including a minor, for allegedly beating 54-year-old Manipuri-origin musician Chontham Vikram Singh to death in Delhi.
The incident took place at around 11:30 pm on September 6, 2026. Vikram Singh, who lived in Delhi’s Ashram area, had gone downstairs to object to the loud noise and commotion caused by a delivery worker and employees of a local roadside eatery.
