Actor Tej Sapru recently revealed that Rajesh Khanna had abused him during a film shoot in Kashmir.
In ‘The Rediff’ podcast, Tej Sapru shared that this incident had deeply hurt him, as he had great respect for Rajesh Khanna. Tej Sapru has worked in over 300 films in a career spanning more than four decades.
While discussing Rajesh Khanna’s personality, Tej Sapru said that when someone is at the peak, sometimes the people around them spoil their mindset. However, Rajesh Khanna’s other quality was very special. According to Tej, “I have rarely seen anyone with such a big heart.”
He then mentioned an incident that occurred during a film shoot in Kashmir. Sapru narrated, “Once we were working together. Suddenly, I heard someone abusing me from behind. When I turned around, I found it was Kaka Ji.”
Tej Sapru and Rajesh Khanna worked together in many famous films like ‘Paap Ka Ant’ (1989), ‘Rajput’ (1982) and ‘Main Tera Dushman’ (1989).
Tej Sapru revealed that when Rajesh Khanna abused him, he was with an actress from the film. He did not mention why Rajesh Khanna abused him.
Sapru said that this incident had upset him greatly. He mentioned that Rajesh Khanna’s first film was with his father DK Sapru and he had great respect for him.
Tej Sapru said, “I respect not only him, but everyone who is senior to me and has worked with my father. Whether he is a big actor or small, until he sits down, I don’t sit on a chair myself.”
He further explained, “Despite showing so much respect, I don’t know what happened that he abused me from behind. I was very upset about this.”
Tej Sapru’s father D.K. Sapru had worked in many excellent films like ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Pakeezah’, ‘Deewar’, and ‘Kala Pani’.
Rajesh Khanna apologised the next day
Tej Sapru revealed that both of them had a shoot together the next day. A sequence was being shot in the snow in Kashmir. He didn’t say hi, hello or namaste to Rajesh Khanna. He silently placed a chair and sat in the snow.
Tej Sapru revealed that he was still angry about the previous incident at that time. He did not want to have any conversation with Rajesh Khanna. The shooting started and both got busy with their respective shots.
After this, Rajesh Khanna came to him and started talking. According to Tej Sapru, Rajesh Khanna said to him, “Hey tall boy, let’s forget it.”
To this, Tej Sapru replied, “Sir, you had abused me.”
Rajesh Khanna then said, “No no, it’s done yaar, come come.”
Tej Sapru revealed that after this, Rajesh Khanna asked him to come along with him in the evening. Tej Sapru agreed to go with him.
After the shooting ended, both went together. Tej Sapru revealed that after this, he spent a lot of time with Rajesh Khanna. He said, “The whole night Kaka ji and I sat, drank, and ate together.”
